We are Tim and Matt Becker, twin mathematicians with a love of soccer. We both have PhDs in applied mathematics (Tim from Rice University and Matt from University of Maryland, College Park) and played soccer together at the College of William & Mary.
We have been huge fans of European soccer since we were first taken to Europe at age 7. Since not long after, Matt has supported Liverpool, while Tim supports Arsenal.
We started this project in 2018 as we watched the popularity of soccer data analytics continue to rise. We wanted to jump in so created our own Expected Goals (xG) model and it has grown from there.
